The Prez Election Pisses Me Off

I’m an immigrant to the U.S., as I’ve written before (read “Only in America”). I’m very patriotic. So, I watch closely the campaigns for the Presidency. I’m a registered Independent.

Frankly, I’m disappointed with both sides. The campaigns have really focused on 30-second ads, that try to be “dramatic” and catch our attention. In a few cases, the ads are dishonest.

I wish the politicians would treat us like adults.

The President of the U.S., for me, is the CEO of the country. So, I use my VC lens when looking at Romney and Obama: who has good judgment? At the end of the day, that’s what you pay the CEO of a start-up to do: make tough decisions with often limited data. In other words, apply judgment.

I’m still waiting for evidence of this from both candidates.

Jo, I couldn’t agree with you more. At this point I don’t have confidence in either and wish the debates could take on the format proposed in the HBO show Newsroom. If you haven’t watched it I highly recommend. It’s just so hard to sift through the propaganda.

I am also an immigrant and grew up in the Soviet system. I grew up listening to the promises of politicians even as the country was sliding into a complete chaos. The US politicians behave very similarly. Quite often when I hear them speak, I think to myself: “Hmm….I heard that before…. 25 years ago…Please, come up with something new so that I won’t be embarrassed to believe in it.”
But the sad thing is that regardless of what they say or don’t say, we are still stuck with the two we don’t like and forced to choose one of them.

I was in Moscow and Leningrad in 1988. Scary to think our prez candidates are sounding like Soviet propagandists.
