My Domestic Chores

November 30, 2012September 27, 2013 Jo Tango

“You are the most important man in your daughters’ lives.” That’s what a friend of mine told me.  She is the mother of five girls, and she mentioned a book that she read about parenting. I ordered the book and found it helpful. I’ve spoken to some women over the years, and they too say

(I Survived) Our Thanksgiving

November 23, 2012May 1, 2024 Jo Tango

Well, I’m happy to report that we had a fun and restful Thanksgiving. We hosted, and I did a lot cooking (see “Since My Mom Died….”). I’ve provided links to the recipes, if they’re online: Thursday lunch: Glazed ham, home-made bread, brie en croute, fruit. Thursday dinner: Brined herb-crusted turkey with cider gravy (see photo above), ham,

By way of background, my mother and I were very similar personality types: extroverts, who like to joke and make things happen.

My Children and Swimming at the YMCA

October 20, 2012September 27, 2013 Jo Tango

I am at our town YMCA this Saturday morning, watching two of my children take swimming lessons. We have what some consider to be a “large” family. Yet, it doesn’t feel large to us. Each child is so unique and is such an individual. It would be impossible to lump them into a homogeneous group.

My Mother and Her Shoe Boxes

May 12, 2012May 13, 2017 Jo Tango

This is a hard post to write. Today is May 12. It is the day of my mother’s birthday. She also died, at age 60, on May 12. That day also happened to be Mother’s Day. It was a difficult day with too many coincidences. Soon after she passed away, I was at the funeral
