I’ve blogged openly about how my wife and I donate to charity. For me, giving away 10% of our pre-tax income each year was uncomfortable during the early years of our marriage, when we had little income. But, my wife felt strongly about it, and over time, I learned to deal with it.
Now, I really enjoy trying to help out good causes. We pick one or two a year to make a difference.
Interestingly, there’s now a great deal of evidence on why giving is good for us. Giving creates a major dopamine/serotonin rush in your brain.
If you’d like to learn more, there’s a cool TED Talk from Harvard B-School Professor Michael Norton. It’s only 10 minutes. Click below or click here.
We’re wired to give. I think that’s pretty cool.
