Being a parent is a challenge at times.
It takes real self-awareness to find a balance. You want to encourage your child to do well, but, you don’t want to pressure overly.
And, every child is different.
The responsibilities increase if a child is in a crisis.
I am thinking about all that after listening to this riveting podcast (“You Need Help to Help Her”): Two parents have a daughter, once a high achiever, who has largely locked herself in her room for two years. In the podcast, they meet with a counselor to help them.
How do they encourage their daughter without pushing her? How do they find support? How does bullying later affect children? How do they confront any latent feelings of shame?
This podcast is amazing. Worth a listen.
