Last light today in the canyon. #nofilter

On Instagram, I follow some elite fly fishing anglers. Some are on the national team.

Yesterday, one of them posted the picture above. Stunning.

The photo reminds me how I feel at the end of an outing on the water: grateful, tired, fulfilled and at peace. I slowly leave the river and walk to the car. I look back one last time.

I fished yesterday for eight hours. I didn’t get anything. It is the first time I’ve been skunked. January is a tough month for fishing.

But, I felt very happy at the end of the day. There’s something about being outside and thinking about nothing other than fly fishing. Being in “flow.”

Life is about showing up. That is true with fishing, entrepreneurship, VC, parenting and being a good spouse. Showing up doesn’t mean that things happen perfectly. It also doesn’t guarantee success. But, by showing up and persisting, you let the odds happen.

I’m very fortunate. I have a supportive family and a close group of friends. My business partners are incredible. In spite of the turmoil that surrounds the nation, I feel secure. I feel known and loved.

I hope you’ve had a good weekend. My pro sports fast has ended. Should be a good football game tonight.
